While there are 2 product specification levels for these pipes, the standard quality for line pipes is referred to as API 5L X46 PSL1 and the more stringent and detailed one is referred to as PSL2. Now the API 5L X46 PSL2, as opposed to the PSL 1, tends to be more detail oriented in terms of not only its testing requirement, along with different ceiling limits of mechanical properties, but the PSL 2 has stricter chemical physicals while simultaneously requiring Charpy impact testing conditions.
