The thickness of Hastelloy C276 tubing is often specified by a gauge for thinner thicknesses and for thicker Hastelloy C276 tubing it is indicated by fractions of an inch or millimeters. The normal range for tubing is 20 gauge, which measures .035 inch, up to a thickness of 2 inches. Passivation is commonly used to improve the corrosion resistance of ASTM B622 Hastelloy C276 Tubing. Good machinability, although the alloy work hardens as is true of the nickel base alloys in general.
Hastelloy C276 FORMING
Can be cold worked by all conventional methods.
Hastelloy C276 WELDING
Weldable by all common methods except that excessive heat input should be avoided. Can be used in the “as-welded” condition without further heat treatment for most corrosive applications.
Hastelloy C276 HEAT TREATMENT
Solution heat treatment is done at 2050 F followed by a rapid quench. The alloy is supplied in this condition. If hot forming or forging is done then the parts should be solution heat treated, if possible, before use.
Hastelloy C276 FORGING
The alloy can be forged or hot-upset by conventional means.
Hastelloy C276 HOT WORKING
Can be hot formed or extruded. Should be solution heat treated following hot forming.
Hastelloy C276 COLD WORKING
Readily cold worked by conventional methods.

ASTM B622 Hastelloy C276 Tubing Pressure and Temperature Ratings
The allowable temperature range for ASTM B622 Hastelloy C276 Tubing may be contracted at its lower end by the hydroscopic nature of the chloride of the metal concerned; for example, iron should not be used at a temperature less than 54°F (30°C) above the HCl-H2O dew point, while copper may be used as long as the temperature is 9°F (5°C) above the dew point. In view of the hydroscopic nature of nickel chloride, it would be prudent to assume that hydrochloric acid might condense on a nickel surface at a temperature as much above the dew point as in the case of iron, i.e. 54°F (30°C).
